How do I know if I am depressed?

Depression is a feeling that lasts longer than a period of anxiety or anxious thoughts. Depression is a general feeling of being down or having a low mood that has lasted a few weeks or months and is reducing your quality and enjoyment of life.

Some symptoms of depression are;

  • Feeling tired all the time; becoming easily upset or emotional, frustrated or angry; no confidence or self-esteem; maybe emotionally numb or empty like a void inside.
  • Changes in behaviour, like being withdrawn from friends, family and social events; 'going through the motions' not really caring or connecting with what you are doing; low motivation and daily tasks seem like mountains; everything seems to build up and is hard to get on top of; personal care and hobbies are too much effort.
  • Having a low outlook on life; feeling helpless or there is no hope; difficulty remembering things or making decisions; wondering 'what is the point'?

These symptoms can lead to potentially harmful behaviours such as self-harming; suicidal thoughts or actions; using more tobacco, alcohol or drugs than usual; getting too much or too little sleep; loss of appetite or eating more than usual; aches and pains which may be signs of depression or may have other underlying causes.

You don't need to live like this, things can get better. Contact me now to talk about how we can make this happen...
